Comprised of three pieces of hand-carved limestone, this Italian wall fountain features a scrolled back wall with a mascaron water feature. All three pieces of stone have a light gray hue but have aged well, with a darkened gray patina mixed with some traces of green buildup from prior use.
The female mascaron, whose mouth serves as the waterspout, is emerging from a scrolled console, which has been carved over a textured background. A pair of large volutes flank the bottom of the back wall, sitting on top of the demi-lune-shaped basin with a thick quarter-round edge (the interior is 9 ½” H x 9” D). Massive gadroon lobes adorn the front of the basin, which sits on a half pedestal base with a rectangular plinth, providing stability for placement inside or outdoors. The Italian wall fountain is perfect for a small courtyard or the exterior wall of a rose garden. It could also be used as a quaint bathroom or powder room sink.
CONDITION: Very strong condition with minor nicks and rubs. Light buildup to basin with a visible demarcation of water from a previous installation. The fountain does not include a spout, but it can function without, depending on the desired rate of water dispersal.
