This richly carved mirror features an ornate giltwood frame that was produced in France in the 1600’s. The frame most likely originally held a painting, although the mirror which has replaced the canvas is also antique.
The highly carved frame features a repeating floret motif along the edge of the 28 ½” H x 22 ¼” W oval opening. Dotting the numerous low-relief carvings are more pronounced flowers, such as roses and sunflowers. The floral ring is surrounded by a fluted geometric border entwined among large, curled leaves. At the top is a large floral bouquet crest adorned with small leaf margents.
Our highly carved 17th century giltwood mirror features a unique frame with thick and rich floral motifs. It will be the focal point of any room in which its hung.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with wear commensurate to age and use, including minor age separations and rubs to the frame. Losses to gilding, revealing traces of red bole. Buildup to mirror with light loss of silvering. The frame has not been wired for hanging.
