Hand carved in Italy in the early 2000’s, this limestone peacock sits on a classic rectangular plinth. Our proud peacock is shown displaying his tail feathers in the typical fan shape while standing on a rocky outcrop. The carved plinth has panels with canted corners on all four sides and thick cavetto molding at the base. The grey colored Italian limestone has developed a lovely patina from exposure to the elements.
Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians highly regarded peacocks for their beauty and vibrant colors. These civilizations believed that peacocks were gifts from the gods and should be viewed as good luck. In some cultures, the peacock symbolizes immortality or royalty. Today, this stone peacock will serve as a unique ornament in any garden, but could also be placed inside.
CONDITION: Very good condition with minor wear to stone. Natural patina from resting outside for the past few years.
