Highlighted by Gothic-style tracery, this wonderful wrought iron fireplace screen has two landier warming bowls and a front access door. Dating to circa 1900, this fire screen would have been used in a French chateau to protect a sitting room from burning logs in a fireplace. The access door, which consists of latticework with small floral motifs at the vertices, would have allowed for wood to be added to the firebox (there is a still-functional latch that keeps the doors secure). Flanking each side of the door is a C-scroll trellis adorned with small rosettes and banding. At the top of the screen is an arching Gothic pediment filled with more banded C-scrolls and rosettes, flanked by two small, banded volutes. The sides of the screen are formed by a pair of knotted warming bowls with twisted shafts that terminate in high, arching legs. A unique wrought iron fireplace accessory, this French fire screen will provide protection from a burning fire while also adding a Gothic aesthetic to any sitting room such as a den, library, or living room.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Fleabites and minor wear to thinner elements. Light buildup with commensurate oxidation.
