This exceptional antique giltwood console has been carved showing movement in its subject, the large cherub. The determined cherub is using his entire body to place an item in his left hand on
top of the console. His right shoulder is pressing against the underside of the table top while his legs and little feet are pushing upwards. The form and subject matter of this console indicate that it is likely from Southern Germany in the 18th century (Rococo Period). Ensconced within beautifully hand carved, large blooming flowers and scrolling C-Scroll acanthus leaves, the cherub is the focal point of the front of this table. This rare and unusual giltwood console with carrara marble top will be the highlight of any room.
CONDITION: Very good condition. Old restorations, age separations, minor chips and rubs to gilding and wood. Carrara marble top not original to piece.
