This oil on canvas painting depicts the famous La Place de la Concorde in Paris. It is by the French painter, Paul Balmigere (1882-1953), who became known for his Parisian cityscapes as well as rural landscapes. His play on light is particularly evident in this wonderful evening scene. It has been framed in a giltwood frame with linear motifs.
Paul Marcel Balmigere was born in the Pyrenees Mountains commune of Caudiès-de-Fenouillèdes in 1882. He studied under Flameng and Dechenaud and regularly exhibited at Salon des Artistes Francais from 1927 through 1938. He also exhibited at the Salon des Independants in Paris during the same period and was awarded honorable mention in 1930 with a silver medal in 1935 by the Society of French Landscape Artists.
