Produced in France, circa 1890, this cast iron door knocker is in the form of a French dolphin. The volute tail of the dolphin is affixed to a divided leaf mount with beading filling the parts. A circular strike plate, which is most likely not original (yet still antique), is chased with thin rings. The iron has developed a lovely deep brown patina from exposure to the elements. It would make a fantastic addition to any exterior door.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor rubs, commensurate with use. The strike plate is most likely not original, but still antique. The knocker has been displayed affixed to a block of wood, which would not be needed when installed architecturally.
