Bacchus, the Roman god of winemaking, is the subject of this small fountain mask element/spout; his Greek counterpart is known as Dionysus. Cast from reconstituted stone in France, the mascaron has been finished with an ochre color, but has developed a lovely orange and reddish-brown patina from exposure to the elements. The piece is designed to be hung from a wall so that water would flow through Bacchus’ mouth into a basin below. Our cast fountain mask element or spout could also be hung as a decorative wall sculpture.
CONDITION: Good condition with a small loss and wear around nose. See photos.
