Black Forest accessories are highly sought-after for their inherent beauty and meticulous carvings. This cigar chest was hand-carved in Switzerland, circa 1890, in that lavish style, as noted by the pair of highly plumed birds above a foliate molding that graces the top of the box. The doors of the box open to reveal an interior with eight trays, each boasting 13 slots designed to store cigars and cigarillos. Complementing its ornate façade, the box also boasts pull-out drawers for storing essential accessories like cutters, matches, and wraps. Sinuous moldings separate each compartment and foliate clusters embellish the sides. Resting gracefully on four leaf-shaped bracket feet beneath an apron adorned with additional foliage, this Swiss cigar box is a testament to the artistry and heritage of the Black Forest tradition.
CONDITION: Good antique condition, with minor nicks and losses. Old restorations with some more recent work. Functional locks each with its own key. One cigar tray has a missing pull, but it can still be operated.
