This beautiful antique French cachepot has wonderful blue dolphins for handles on either side. The white ground color is highlighted with mythological scenes. hand painted in golds, blues, oranges, reds, yellows and more. There is a hand painted upper border depicting flowers and leaves and a lower border hand painted with flutes and beading. At the center of both sides are cartouches: one, with a woman bathing herself from a tall pitcher of water which is resting at her feet; the opposing side depicts a knight riding a horse. The cachepot is stamped with a Gien mark, and an indistinguishable incised mark at another location on the bottom. Beautiful to look at, this French Faience cachepot by Gien will bring any surface it sets on to life.

CONDITION: Good condition with minor crack above the female bather’s cartouche with tiny chip at end.
