This elegant, hand carved, antique French walnut wood mantel is in the Louis XV style and dates to the middle of the 1800s. The shaped top defines the ornamented apron beneath. The center of the lintel is a graceful C-scrolled cartouche of scrolling acanthus leaf motifs. It is flanked on the left by a branch of oak leaves and acorns, while on the right, it is a branch of laurel leaves and berries. A long C-scroll follows the indented shape of the legs forming a panel wrapping around the front corners. Unadorned plinths are at the base. This walnut wood used on this antique fireplace surround has beautiful graining and color, and overall, it is in very good condition.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor rubs and scratches, small traces of old wood worm. Small restoration to top
