Presented in a foliate-themed giltwood frame, this oil painting captures the essence of a French farm in the 1800s. A lush green landscape beneath a sky filled with fluffy white clouds serves as the perfect backdrop for the focal point of the piece. Three white horses yoked to a large cart that has been filled with an abundant amount of hay. The scene depicts two farmers in red pants and blue and white shirts with gray hats loading the cart with pitchforks, with two more men tending the field in the distance.

Signed in the lower right corner by the artist, Emile Desire Lienard (born 1842), a French painter and sculptor, known for his realistic sculptures of hunting dogs and rural paintings depicting everyday life.

CONDITION:  Some buildup or discoloration to varnish as seen in photos.  Otherwise, good antique condition, with minor separations to giltwood frame. Very light creasing to the canvas, with some buildup.
