This striking black console table is made from a dark stained mahogany and fitted with a rectangular, patinated black marble top. It has restrained and elegant design, with it’s main decorative element consisting of two shapely lyres on stepped out plinths. They lyre was a popular motif of the Neoclassical era of the 1800s in Europe. Artists and furniture makers were inspired by the ornamental designs of Classical Greece and Rome: laurel wreaths, medallions, garlands, and lyres. The ornamentation was then offset by simpler features like straight legs and platform feet, and the premier wood was mahogany.
Today, this elegant ebonized mahogany wood and marble console table from France will easily blend into any classical or contemporary setting.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor markings and wear to finish. Marble top has been patinated black.
