Antique French Cast Iron Vase with Lion Head Handles and Gardroons, 19th Century

$2,200.00

Description

A timeless vase with lion head handles and gadrooning, this cast iron vasque de jardin was created in France in the 1800’s. Vasque de Jardin is the term used to describe small vessels that are wider than they are high.

The scalloped rim is exceptionally undulating, with alternating rounded and angular wave troughs surrounding the 12-inch opening. A pair of lion mascarons situated on the side of the gadrooned body have intertwined oval handles emerging from their mouths. The indented waist has widely spaced fluting that trails down to the circular base that rests on a square plinth.

This antique cast iron vase with lion head handles and gadroons retains its original silver paint along the main body. Certain areas have lost paint, leaving a lovely patina to the exposed iron. This is a lovely planter that can be used inside or out.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with acceptable losses to paint and age separations, leading to minor oxidation. Light buildup. Please see photos for details.
