This cast iron piece, known as a book press, was originally used in banks or libraries used to bind documents and books with significant force. This model, from France, dates to the turn of the last century, and it is adorned with interesting scrolled motifs and beading. The color transitions from copper to deep black. Upon closer inspection, you can see small holes where it would have been bolted to a table surface during bindings. Today, this attractive and unique iron press would make for a perfect decorative accessory in any library or office.
