A lovely indoor planter or decorative accessory, this blue and white faience jardiniere was hand crafted and painted in France, circa 1900. The ovate main body features a beautiful light cobalt blue floral display over a white background. Both of the long sides are adorned with abundant cornucopia flanked by birds sitting on a floral margent. The shorter sides have large, blue handles formed by intertwined stylized dolphins above painted floral bouquets. Because the faience was shaped by hand, the opening is not a perfect oval, with slight undulations that give the jardiniere added character. There is a slightly rolled rim to the opening with a painted foliate vine on the interior and repeating demi-lunes along the outside. Our French blue and white jardiniere can be placed in any room from the kitchen to a bathroom. It would present well on a center table in a foyer with a floral display inside.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with fleabites and minor rubs. Craquelure to interior with acceptable losses. There is a small, old repair to the interior.
