This striking gilt framed oil painting is a 19th Century take on an Old Masters work of a Biblical scene. The artist’s use of colorful light against dark is superb. The finely carved and gilded frame is by J. W. Vokins, Carvers and Gilders to the Royal Family (stamped on back). On the back of the canvas: “Prepared by Charles Roberson, 99 Long Acre, London”. Charles Roberson was a supplier of art material to London artists, starting in 1810.
CONDITION: Relined at some point in time, old surface build up on Frame minor chips.
