Hand-carved in France on “1er Octobre 1841” (see photo of the verso side), this oak capital features a large floral display beneath the molded entablature. There is a fruit and pinecone grouping that sits on top of the petals and extends onto the molding. Halfway up the stem, a large rinceau on each side grows out as the leaf curls downward. The base of the stem is surrounded by large leaf tips above a thin quarter round molding. A painted black stand (which was added more recently) runs along the back side, slotting into a small eyelet above the date engraving. Our well carved oak capital on stand would make the perfect accessory for a mantel, console, or center table.
CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor age separations. Light nicks and losses. The painted black stand is more recent.
