$3,800.00

Description

The lion has been a symbol of England since the late 12th century, when King Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) adopted the animal for his first Great Seal. This lion was carved out of pine in England during the 1700’s and has since been repurposed into a table lamp. Wired for use in American homes, the lamp has been paired with a 20 1/8-inch diameter cream shade. The rampant lion is leaning on a scrolled shield with a bend dexter and fields of squares and roundels. A rectangular plinth with several layers of thin molding provides a stable base for the lamp. Our 18th century pine lion table lamp would be a lovely accessory to a gentleman’s office, bar area, or living room.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with light age separations and traces of old wood worm. Minor nicks and a small loss to the base of the heraldic shield. The lamp has been wired for use in American homes and paired with a cream color shade.
