This 20th century center table from Italy features an impressive and beautiful matrix of inlaid marble specimen. Inlay is a decorative technique where colorful materials are placed into carved depressions on a base object. In this case, the base object is a 1 ¼” thick round top, while the colorful materials are marble veneers of differing colors and shapes.
The extravagant top consists of several rings of geometric parquetry utilizing slate colored imperiale, Spanish gold, and dark emperador marbles, with each pattern demarcated by thin strips of black. Various shapes are seen, including triangles, lozenges, and a central eight-point star consisting of crema marfil and rosa sico specimens. A concave pedestal comprised entirely of Spanish gold veneer rests on top of a two-tier plinth with incurved sides. The top layer is made with imperial marble, while the bottom tier with rounded corners is constructed with Spanish gold veneer. A beautiful example of Italian craftsmanship, our inlaid marble center table would be a fantastic addition to a foyer or living room.
