This pair of bronze “Lion Couchant” chenets from France have finely detailed chasing and an exquisite mercury gilding. The well proportioned muscles, paws, mane, and tail show incredible craftsmanship, and everything remains in excellent condition. The lions were separately cast and attached to deep relief foliate and floral decorated plinths from underneath. Unlike the previous Louis XVI models, the chenets have a finial ball motif instead of the usual flame. The chenets are balanced by a black cast iron support and stand on matching toupie feet. These antique French chenets will add a touch of refinement to any fireplace, but can also be used decorative accessories.
CONDITION: Excellent antique condition with very minor evidence of wear.
