This magnificent antique French Gothic style bed has ornamentation on all four sides and is made from solid European Oak. When we found it in France in the late 2000’s, the bed had been completely stripped of it’s dark 19th century finish. A few years later, our client decided to have it finished in a rich gold leaf, emblematic of the Royal furnishings found in French Chateaux. A highly regarded, nationally known Dallas conservator was commissioned to do the job, and the decision was made use a 23.5 K Rose Noble gold leaf (96% pure gold). The process took 4 months to complete.
This fantastic bed is unlike anything else on the market, and it will truly be the focal point in any room. French oak is a difficult wood to carve, yet the 19th century craftsmen who designed and sculpted this bed, spared no expense. All sides and columns are beautifully carved with thick, undulating motifs of cusps, leaves, quatrefoils, vines, and arcading.
Maximum Height=102 3/4, Footprint=85 1/2 x 64 1/2, Opening for Box Spring=77 1/4 x 55 7/8 (a FULL (75 x 54) would drop in). Beds comes apart for easy transport.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition with some minor losses to motifs and wear commensurate with age. Bed is connected with original long bolts, however, for daily use, it’s advised to use brackets or something similar for reinforcement.
