Description

This exquisite Dutch chest of drawers, with its unique shape and finish , measures nearly 5 1/2 feet long. The chest features a bombe front with protruding pilasters that add a sense of grandeur to its design. The middle drawer boasts a concave form, while the two flanking it project outwards, creating a visually striking profile.

The rectangular top of the chest has angular front corners and is adorned with two layers of molding, giving it a regal appearance. Each drawer is a work of art in itself, with a golden brown hue and subtle traces of white. The drawers are adorned with a pair of bronze mounts, elegantly festooned with an arabesque motif and a swag drop-down pull, flanking a smaller arabesque escutcheon. The level of detail in the apron is truly remarkable, featuring a palette akin to the drawers and a repeating pyramid motif that results in a highly textured carving. Flanking the drawers are highly scrolled pilasters, with a light brown finish that reveals remnants of the original white finish, adding a sense of history and character to this exceptional piece. This Dutch chest of drawers will undoubtedly be the centerpiece of any room it graces.

CONDITION: Good antique condition, with minor nicks and rubs. The chest of drawers has been stripped and given a partial whitewashing more recently, leaving traces of the original finish. A highly unique piece of furniture.
