19th Century ‘Grand Vin De Bordeaux’ French Wine Tasting Table

Description

Hand-carved in the late 1800’s, this wine tasting table was produced in typical French fashion: as a circular table with a flip-top that folds down. A geometric support swivels into a locking position, allowing the table to be displayed as a standard table. The pedestal feet and folding nature of these tables allowed for easy storage and transportation to and from the vineyards.

At some point in the 20th century, the top was hand-painted black with the red and gold stylized logo of the “St Emilion Grand Cru” label of the “Chateau Hautes-Graves d’Arthus” vineyard, which have been painted at the bottom in white and gold lettering, respectively. Above these phrases is a 15th century French style shield topped with a five-point open crown and flanked by a pair of langued lion supporters. The lions are depicted in a rampant regardant position on top of a rod draped with a white banner and black letters reading “In Vino Veritas”. All items have been painted in gold, except for some of the charges on the shield, which have been painted red.

A perfect addition for any wine room, our 19th century flip-top wine tasting table can also be used as a small breakfast table or occasional table. It also can be presented in its tilted position as a decorative accent in a wine or bar area.

CONDITION: Wear commensurate to age and use with minor nicks, rubs, and age separations. Acceptable losses to the top and feet. The table was originally hand-carved in the late 1800’s, but the armorial paint is more recent.
