Description

Produced by the French studio of Theodore Lefront, circa 1880, this antique barbotine vase features an oblong main body with brass mounts. The vase has been hand-painted with a quaint scene of a pair of chickens (one brown hen and a white rooster with red comb) standing in front of a variegated brown building with a few windows. A green and gold feed bowl is on the hay-lined ground in front of them, with a faint signature (not Lefront’s) visible in golden straw.

The vase is topped by a brass crown of repeating pierced oeils de boeuf. A pair of foliate ears with lyre form drop handles are affixed to the sides of the crown. Four similar leaf scrolls function as feet, mounted to a pierced and scrolled ring beneath the vase. A unique painted barbotine vase that would make a fabulous decorative accessory for a mantel or center table. It can also be used to hold cut flowers such as long-stem roses.

CONDITION: Great antique condition with fleabites and slight scratches to main body. Minor buildup to the brass mounts.
