Circa 1870 Bleached Oak Horloge de Parquet Clock Case from Liege, Belgium

SKU: 422-64 Category:

$2,400.00

Description

Hand-carved in Liege, Belgium circa 1870, this horloge de parquet has a commanding presence. The oak wood has been bleached, revealing great graining to the tan colored wood.

A thick base with cavetto molding on the top offers support to the statuesque trunk. The door has a center pierced carving resembling a wheel, set in between vertical rectilinear panels adorned with a scalloped leaf and foliate margent. Both sides are comprised of long inset rectangular panels with thin molding. The hood sits on top a cavetto molding at the top of trunk. It features a shaped piece of glass with a high arch and additional cavetto molding. A white face with black numerals (including date increments) is slotted in between a pair of rectangular glass panels on the sides, separated by foliate margents inside of a carved elongated rectangle, all beneath a shaped crown with thick molding.

The timing mechanisms have been removed, rendering the clock face non-functional. Place our bleached horloge de parquet in a hallway, living room, or study for a fantastic decorative accessory that will instantly enhance the room.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with minor rubs. The wood has been stripped, with traces of the original finish. The timing mechanism no longer functions; the clock is intended for decorative use only. A third hand for marking the date is missing.
