This superb 18th C. French walnut wood buffet is from Dijon. Its lines and ornamentation are strongly delineated by dynamic high and low levels of thick moldings. The top is molded over a recessed conforming body. The two front doors have panels “en chapeau” or with the upper borders arched, flanked by shaped indents. Spandrels are above the shaped indents which are separated by conforming indented carvings give the overall appearance of a rectangle on each frontal door. There are two rectangular side panels having central raised panels. The rounded vertical corners also have a rectangular shape. The magnificent apron is stepped out with high and low thick moldings, and the two front bun feet are also indented with high and low moldings where they meet the floor. The back feet are block, typical of 18th C. French furnishings.
This antique French Buffet from Dijon with its elegant straight lines can be mixed with contemporary to traditional furnishings.
Condition: Old restorations, age and grain separations to wood , rubs, scratches and nicks to wood, minor traces of old woodworm all consistent with its age.
