This ceremonial copper grape hotte is from France and dates to the 1700’s. The French Hotte is a carrying basket for the wine grapes. Since they were used for collecting grapes, they are usually made from woven cane. Tin was also used in the late 19th century and 20th century. Very old copper models such as this one was used in celebrations or ceremonies related to the harvest. This one still has its worn leather straps attached to it.
In wonderful condition for its age, this 18th Century French Copper Hotte can be used as a decorative piece in a wine room or kitchen. It can also be used to hold firewood or umbrellas.
CONDITION: Minor denting to copper, minor scratches and marks throughout.
