Hand-carved in oak in Spain during the 1600s, this side table features a 1 ¼ inch thick single plank top. The edge extends beyond the main body on the sides, giving added dimension to the less than 33-inch wide table. A carved apron consists of a belt drawer with a pendant pull beneath a shaped escutcheon. The key plate is flanked by a pair of identical carvings of a cartouche with an unknown motif set within a rectangle with canted embellishments in the corners.
Supported by thin baluster-form legs over small bun feet and stretchers on all four sides, this 17th century Spanish side table would make a wonderful addition to an entry, hallway, or living room.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Old fills to the top, which has commensurate wear, presenting as minor staining, scratches, and losses. Light buildup to the interior of the drawer. No key.
