This bold walnut wood door from the 1600’s is from the area of Languedoc, in southern France. The hand carved, raised, beveled motifs are Gothic quatrefoil and cinquefoil cusps. The carving is deep and shows flawless hand carved shapes. There are five panels, four vertical and one horizontal. The back of the door has a later fabric that was placed on it for decorating the unadorned wood. It was most likely an interior “built in” door in a wall. However, because of its size it could be used as an entry door or interior door.
This beautiful ancient French door from the 1600’s will add warmth to any area it’s placed. Keep in mind, this can also be re-purposed as a horizontal headboard.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition; minor losses of wood, traces of old woodworm.
