This wonderful medium sized trunk dates to the 1600’s. The top is made up of two boards that open to the inside of the trunk. The front panel is highly detailed depicting arcading arches over columns on plinths. At the top corners and mid-section are motifs called spandrels, which are foliate in nature. The insides of the arcades also have densely carved scrolling floral and foliate motifs. There is a keyhole and key in the center spandrel (lock works). Both sides have forged iron handles and panels with more floral and foliate motifs. All this rests upon four bun feet (likely added later).
CONDITION: Good antique condition with wear minor losses and age separations. Mark to top of trunk.
