18th Century French Stone Farmhouse Trough

Stone troughs have been used to water livestock in rural Europe for many centuries so it's often difficult to date them. However, it is known that they were usually replaced by cast iron models in the mid 1800's. They were mostly rectangular and could be very long. The one we have here, is smaller than most, measuring only 28 inches across. This would make a good size for a farmhouse style sink. Today, they are also used as planters, and they can be incorporated into creative fountain designs. This trough already has some draining holes in the bottom. It was carved from a single block of stone.
