Unusual Reconstituted Stone Jardiniere from France, Circa 1880

This interesting antique French double planter was made with reconstituted stone in the late 1800s. The maker used a natural stone composite as a base, so it appears to be pure carved stone. With well over 100 years of weathering, we decided to touch up some areas with cement. It has an Ionic Capital over an outward slanted pedestal, and to either side of the pedestal are two medium sized stepped in rectangular planters. The motifs are a ribbon tied stalk of leaves, fleur-de-lys, beading, acanthus leaves, and fluting. The sides have beading around the upper molding beneath the capital, but otherwise, no ornamentation. The back has two vertical cut-outs where the planter would have been attached to something. This beautiful and unusual double planter with an architectural twist will ideally be placed inside or under a covered outdoor area. It should be ok in the elements as long as it is properly sealed.

CONDITION: Good overall condition with previous restorations using cement. Some minor losses. Please inspect photos.
