A Very Large Antique French Landscape Painting of a River Crossing a Village at Sunset, Circa 1905

This very large antique French landscape painting was done by Victor Brugairolles (1869 – 1936). Known for his love of French landscapes, this is one of his largest paintings. The river runs through the town depicted by rooftops behind a park like setting. Two cows graze and rest on the bank’s grassy area under a tree to the right, while a woman crosses a walking bridge over the river at the center of the painting. The time of day depicted is sunset, with the moon, bridge, and buildings expertly reflected in the passing river.  Victor Brugairolles feautred his works at the Salon d'Automne as well as the Salon des Artistes français (where he medaled). He was known to paint in such locations at Brittany, the Loire, Holland, and around Paris. Signed in bottom left hand corner. At just over 4’ x 6’7”, this serene landscape painting will definitely be a focal point in any room.

CONDITION: Very good condition. Minor areas of craquelure to paint.
