Large Antique French Oil on Canvas, A Farm Scene by Le Vavasseuer

Cyprien Le Vavasseuer (1866-1924)

This oil on canvas depicts a peaceful, sunny, summer afternoon with cows and roosters at feeding time. There is a female caretaker in attendance within the enclosed area of the barnyard, and the ground is strewn with hay and soft green foliage. A stone barn with a thatched covered roof is to the back right. At the center, is a grove of trees with a small opening giving a view of the main house. The overall impression of the painting is one of leisure on a bright sunny day. The detail and use of light is excellent.  It is signed in the lower left hand area.

Cyprien Le Vavasseur, French (1866-1924), distinguished himself early on as a talented animal and landscape painter.  He was a pupil of J. Lefevre and Damoye. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and took part in the Salon des artistes francais.

CONDITION: Painting has minor stretcher marks.  Frame has minor losses of gilding and minor chips to frame.
