Monumental Antique, French Parcel Paint Trumeau Mirror

This monumental trumeau mirror is simply fantastic! It is right at 11 feet tall and will definitely be the focal point of any room. Trumeaux are almost always rectangular with a decorative carving or painting above the mirror or glass. In 18th century France, the term trumeau was defined as the space between windows. Trumeau mirrors were often placed between windows. Equally as often, they were placed above fireplace mantels, depending upon the design necessity.

Transitional in its style, this trumeau incorporates motifs from the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. What is interesting about this pieces is that the hand carved motifs and the painting have compatible symbolism in a general sense--togetherness, love, constancy and more. There are linear motifs called rais-de-coeur in the shape of a stylized heart, tied ribbons, and floral swags. The painting depicts cherubs, one of whom is holding an arrow, a quiver full of arrows is on the opposite side with a dove resting to its side, a second dove is hovering over the scene to the left, a floral rope flowing amongst the cherubs and a basket of flowers. The ebenist who designed and built this piece was a true artisan. This stunning antique French trumeau is the largest we have ever seen, and will be an asset to any area it is displayed in.
