18th Century Carved Stone Fireplace Mantel from Lorraine, France

This majestic Period Louis XV stone mantel has its beginnings in the 1700’s. It was salvaged at some point in its history from a chateau in Houdreville in the area of Lorraine, France.

The mantel has a conforming top over a shaped frontage. It has an elegant center shell with highly carved details of small shells and gadrooned leaves on its frieze. Variations of these motifs are also at the corners of the frieze. The indented moldings on this mantel are deep adding to the raised relief moldings outlining the entire interior shape. Note the upward slanted edge on the front of the jambs which adds interest to an otherwise straight line. This limestone mantel from the 1700’s will be a wonderful focal point in any room.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition. Minor chipping to edges, consistent with age of 18th C.

Overall Dimensions: H=44 5/8, L=63 3/8, D=19 7/8. Opening Dimensions: H=35 1/8, W=50 3/4
