Pair of Antique French Gilt Bronze Andirons by Bouhon Freres, Paris 19th Century

These stunning andirons done by Bouhon Freres date to the second half of the 1800s. They represent Zeus, King of Greek Gods, and Hera the Queen of the Gods. Zeus is also the God of sky and thunder, and is depicted here holding lightning bolts in his hand. Hera is the Goddess of marriage and birth. Zeus and Hera and are shown standing high on ornate pedestals of dolphins, winged cherubs, putti, and large garlands.

Bouhon Freres were well known Parisian bronziers who specialized in fantastic fireplace accessories such as chenets and firescreens. Their bronzes depicted striking subjets and were of a very high quality. They exhibited at Expositions Universelles of 1897 and 1900, where they received a Gold Medal. These magnificent bronze dore andirons will be the focal point of any fireplace.

CONDITION:  Very good condition with minor wear. Recently professionally cleaned.
