A 17th Century Oak and Iron Strong Box

This iron bound, antique oak trunk from the 1700’s has four inset panels at the front with Gothic ornamentation. The trunk must have held very important valuables at one time, as there are three locks on the front panel and the ability to pad lock the top on each side! The iron straps on the top extend to the sides. Inside the trunk is a valuables box with another lock on that box.  Every Oak board on this chest is covered in iron straps, including the underneath. On the top of the trunk are diagonal iron studs. There are also iron plates at the bottom four corners and smaller ones at the top four corners.  The interior is lined with sheet iron. The maker of this trunk made sure no one was going to get into this trunk, yet it was made to be easily transportable.

Wonderful for any area of the home, this beautiful antique oak plank trunk is a great size and can be used in a variety of ways all over the home.

CONDITION:  Good antique condition. No Keys, box inside is missing a latching strap. Old age separations, minor losses and rubs to wood.
