17th Century Walnut Wood Console Table from Italy

"tables of the seventeenth century;...other tables, again, clearly indicated the arrival of strong Spanish influence; Another popular table in the middle and late seventeenth century, is the half-round table (one of a pair that could be joined together) with wooden legs cut out or fretted in the shape of lyre scrolls."- The Practical Book of Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese Furniture. Harold Donaldson Eberlein and Roger Wearne Ramsdell. Philadelphia & London J.B. Lippinscott Company, 1927.

This elegant console table (half round table) from Italy dates to the 1600’s. It has been hand carved from walnut wood and makes a very simple, but strong statement. The half round top, as it was referred to in the 17th Century, has been made with two walnut wood boards, with the wider board measuring about 13” in depth.  There is a shaped, molded edge around the top. The canted legs are lyre shaped and are connected to each other with a single square stretcher. Today, this elegant piece of Italian history will be the focal point of any room it is placed in.

CONDITION: Good antique condition with some minor old touch-ups, rubs, nicks, all commensurate with its age.
