19th Century Walnut Wood Refectory Table from Italy

This fabulous walnut wood refectory table from Italy has some beautiful graining. Look at some of the photos of the top plank to see the interesting color and patterns.  Refectory table tops were often made from one solid plank of wood, at the most two planks, never three.  These types of tables were originally used as dining tables in monasteries during the Medieval period. In the 16th century, they became more popular and were seen in private castles throughout Europe. This tables apron has veneered panels at either end, made from an exotic wood. The truss legs and feet are very typical of Italian tables made from the 16th Century forward. They are large and thick enough to support the table without the need for a stretcher. Today this table could be used for dining, as a console table, sofa table, or a desk.

CONDITION:  Good antique condition with age separations, old restorations, some losses to wood, abrasions, nicks and scratches.
