Beautiful Period Louis XIV Giltwood Console with Original Marble, Circa 1705

This rare Louis XIV Period Giltwood Wall Console or console d’applique was meant to rest against a wall. It dates to the very beginning of the 1700's and has quite a unique design. The console has two pronounced curved legs at the front sides, and a straight leg at the center back. The serpentine shaped marble on this piece is original to the piece and on it's back and underside, you can see the hand saw markings. Its shaped frieze has a plain band beneath the marble with a diagonally patterned ground beneath. The unique circular center of the frieze features a small rosette surrounded by stylized pierced foliage. The front legs are highly shaped with sinuous scrolls, acanthus leaves and gadrooned cabling. The feet are whats known as swirled toupee. The back leg has floral designs with diagonal lines and is attached at the center by an acanthus leaf and two stretchers. This rare antique giltwood, wall console will be the focal point of any room.

CONDITION: Good condition. Chips to gilt and gesso and minor losses to wood as seen in photos. Marble has old restorations which can be seen underneath and also by hairline crack on top (very stable).
