Stripped 18th Century French Commode with Painted Black Top

From France, this elegant, stripped commode dates to the 1700’s.  At some point in time, the top has been painted a flat black color and the original stain removed..  As is typical with most French commodes from this era, there are four drawers in total. There are two lower, full length drawers, and two smaller drawers on the top level. Each drawer has similar carved motifs with bronze handles and keyhole escutcheons. The corner panels are rounded and there is a shaped symmetrical apron. The sides each have one panel with a symmetrical incised molding at the top of the panels.  All this rests upon two curved block feet at the front and rectangular block feet at the back. This stripped commode from the 1700’s will be an asset anywhere it is placed.

CONDITION: Some age splits and minor losses to wood in areas, old wormwood damage, areas of discoloration to wood, oxidation to areas of bronze hardware.
