Period Louis XV Parcel Painted Commode

This wonderful Louis XV style painted commode from France dates to the 1700’s. Made from walnut wood, it was re-finished/painted sometime in the 1900’s. It has a rectangular conforming wooden top and a restrained shaped front over a recessed, conforming frieze. There are four drawers (top level is two separate drawers) with shaped moldings six cast bronze handles, and bronze keyhole escutcheon plates, all of which have been painted with the corresponding color of the commode. The ornamentation on the handles is stylized acanthus leaves with gadrooned leaves, while the keyhole escutcheon plate is a leaf motif. The rounded corners have been left plain with only a border molding. The sides are arched with shaped indents. The apron is shaped with two scrolls at the bottom center and no ornamentation on the front of the apron. The front feet are beautifully scrolled while the back feet have incised scrolls facing to the front. This 18th century commode has new life with it's 20th century paint and finish and can be used in a variety of interiors.

CONDITION: Good antique condition; previous old restorations and layers of paint; age separations, chipping to paint, nicks, and scratches. See photos.
