Rare Late Renaissance Cabinet from France, 17th Century

This beautifully hand-carved late Renaissance (or 2nd French Renaissance) cabinet has multiple architectural features, moldings and statuary done by a master of cabinetry in the 1600s. This style of cabinet or "deux corps" was typical of Ile De France pieces of the time, showing an Italian influence.

There are stepped in and out crown moldings throughout. Recessed inset moldings underneath the upper portion, house motifs of eagles with wide spread wings, a winged cherub in the center, and twin finely carved grape leaf columns at either end. Pendants of fruit and flowers hang beneath. The cabinet doors are geometrical with various detailed carvings of figures on them. The larger bottom section has wonderfully carved winged cherubs drawers with accompanying pulls. And there are more varying hand-carved faces above all pendants. The raised beveled panels on the doors are in different configurations from the upper cabinet with two center panels bearing hand-carved figures. The sides are plain panels and the feet are block. This magnificent piece will be an asset to any room it is placed in.

CONDITION: Good overall antique condition. Old restorations, recent restorations and partially replaced moldings (see photos) minor losses, age separations and cracks. Commensurate with used condition of 1600s.
