Large Antique Louis XIII Chestnut Confiturier from France

This tall chestnut wood, antique French, Louis XIII style confiturier is from the 1800’s. Several of the elements are period Louis XIII (17th century). It was likely the bottom part of an Homme Debout due to its height. What is wonderful about this piece is that it is geometric in its design, so it can be used in a contemporary design or a traditional setting. The front door has the geometric motif called a pointe de gateau, which originated in the early 1600's. Above this are two drawers with iron handles. The interior has two shelves.  The rest of the piece has plain panels of chestnut wood resting upon four block feet.

The piece is now considered a "confiturier". Originally, confituriers were used to store confit, such as jams jellies, pates and more. Today, they can be used for storage of any kind. This is truly an elegant piece.

CONDITION:  Good overall condition with nicks, age separations, scratches minor losses to wood.  Old restorations to wood.
