A Pair of Painted and Gilt Corner Cabinets from Italy, Circa 1870

These 19th century Italian, painted and gilded corner cabinets come in two pieces.  The bonnets have openings at the center called broken pediments. The cabinets have beautifully scalloped frames surrounding the blown glass panels on the front and sides. The three separate blown glass panes on the front doors are divided by small, gilded, asymmetrical linear moldings having floral and foliate motifs at the center. There are also three separate glass panes on the angled side panels which are divided by small, gilded, half circle, linear moldings.  The entire interior of the upper sections has been lined in red velvet with gimp to the front of the shelves. The serpentine shaped, single door, lower cabinets with angled sides are beneath a curved, stepped out section. They have gilded moldings around the serpentine tops, the door panels, the serpentine bases and angled bracket feet. There is one shelf per cabinet in the interior.

These are of typical Italian shape, inspired by subtle 18th century Italian rococo styling. The beautiful green paint is over gesso on pine wood. Italy did not have access to many exotic woods, thus many pieces were painted softwoods. Bright and cheerful pieces such as this also have the ability to lighten rooms that may otherwise be too dark. Incredibly elegant and refined, these antique Italian corner cabinets will be the focal point of any room. Keys Included.

CONDITION: GOOD. A few small glass panels may have been replaced. Age separations, minor losses to surface, minor old wormwood. Minor losses to velvet and gimp slightly loose in areas. Loss to right foot of left cabinet. Overall in very good condition. Please inspect photos.
