Period Louis XIII Walnut Wood Homme Debout from Bourgogne France, 17th Century

This imposing, period Louis XIII homme debout is from Bourgogne.  It has been constructed with French walnut wood and has the classic top cabinet, middle drawer, and bottom cabinet.  It rests upon two large front bun feet and two rectangular back feet. During the Louis XIII Period, furnishings tended towards the architectural with massive, geometrical, and restrained forms. This piece is no exception. The motifs on the front panels are called pointe de gateau, which are also surrounding the raised diamond pointe panels on both sides of the piece. These types of tall and narrow armoires became known as "homme debouts" during the Revolution. The legend goes that the inside boards and shelving would be removed so that man could stand upright inside, and thus hide from Revolutionary soldiers.

This magnificent period Louis XIII homme debout will make a statement anywhere it is placed.
