Pair of Carved 17th Century Solomonic Columns from France

This impressive pair of turned wooden Solomonic columns is from the 1600’s. We call these Solomonic because the term is used to describe columns resembling the original columns from the Temple of Solomon, delivered by Constantine the Great to St. Peters Basilica in the 4th century. The mid-1600s saw a revival of interest in Solomonic columns, and we see them appearing in tapestries and paintings. These columns have a Corinthian capital with grape vines wrapping around the columns.  There are grape clusters and leaves hanging from the vines, which wrap around each column. They rest upon indented circular bases.  At nearly 7 feet tall, these columns are quite versatile: they can be used be used to flank a room entry, stand on either side of a tapestry or piece of art, or in any area needing large architectural accents.

CONDITION: Good antique condition commensurate with age. Some losses to some motifs/wood, age splits, scratches. Please see photos.
