A Stripped 19th Century Carved French Overdoor Element

This beautiful hand carved, stripped wooden overdoor from France is from the 19th century.  Overdoors were often seen in boiserie or wooden paneled rooms in France. They could also be seen painted, stained, and/or gilded, and would have similar ornamentation to other pieces in the room.  This overdoor features large C-Scrolls of gadrooned leaves at the top, center and sides near the base. There is a large festoon of fruit and foliage at the center between two of the C-Scrolls and beautifull carved tied drape holding the festoon together floats gracefully downwards.

Perfect as a piece of art on a wall or used as an overdoor once again, this piece will be an exquisite focal point in any room.

CONDITION:  Minor losses to motifs, age separations, abrasions, traces of old woodworm, all as seen in photos below.
